Kubuntu and CUPS problems

Hello,

I set up Kubuntu in a bit of an unusual way. I took an Ubuntu CD, installed the base system, and then did apt-get install kubuntu-desktop. I subsequently did all the dist-upgrades, including the upgrade to KDE 3.5. However, I think that something got lost in this approach. I have proprietary Samsung drivers for my CLP-500 printer (whcih were working before I formatted), but they're now telling me the following:

Code:
execv(/etc/init.d/cups): No such file or directory
Starting cups server failed!
The depndencies for the package are GTK1.2+ (GUI works, so that's not it), Ghostscript (which seems to installed) and CUPS 1.1.x (or any other LPD based system).

I checked, cupsd is installed, cupsys is installed...not sure what else I need. Help is appreciated.

Okay, here's the problem. For some dumb reason, loopback is not being set to 127.0.0.1. Therefore, you must force it.

Code:
sudo ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1

And that will be the end of CUPS problems. You can also add tis to one of the files in init.d (I added it to the bottom of network, just before exit 0. This prevents you from having to run that command on each boot up.
