Kubuntu 6.06 scrambles HDD partion table

I have a 100 GB HDD which had the following partition configuration: (ordered as on the disk itself)

P1 : NTFS, 25 GB (winXP)
P2: NTFS ... the remaining space, STORAGE
P3 : FAT32, ~7GB (HP RECOVERY PARTITION) ... yeah I never have time to delete it

Then I downlaoded and the Kubuntu 6.06 LiveDVD, run :Install: from KDE's desktop and followed the instructions ... until the HDD partitioning. There I wanted to convert P2 (NTFS) into ext3 and use it as "/" for the future Kubuntu. I made my choice about the partitioning and executed the changes, (delete P2, create ext3 on its place) ... when the process was done the partition table was shown as:

P1 - same,
P4+P2 = P2* (marked as ext3 but not readable (unable to mount, see if device is connected properly)
P3 ... visible and as far as I can tell intact

Ok what I need is P4 from the initial configuration ... . Can you tell me if there is a "quickfix" to the problem .. no need to say that I'd prefer to recover the data from this partition. Or if there isn't ... any other method or program will be of help .

Thank You in advance ,

If the topic is in the wrong place ...I'm sorry, I did my best to find it in the rush
