Ktorrent for private distributions

I have two DVDs with family videos and still photos, that quite a few relatives are interested in. Rather than mailing DVDs, it would make sense to allow others to download what they want.

To some surprise, almost no one knows how to use FTP, which is the easiest. Most everyone wants a torrent of the ISO image for the DVD. (Interesting, and they don't ftp?)

So in an effort to please some, and to learn more, I am trying to find out the general steps for allowing Ktorrent to transfer files to others. For starters, let's assume everyone receives torrent files for each distribution via email.

I assume that a tracker is necessary. Does Ktorrent have one? Or what are my options?

Finally, probably no one will be running Linux, except me. (Slackware 14.1) So they will be using other torrent clients.

Thanks.

Never had a need to do it, but I found some articles that might be helpful:

you can seed torrents from linux to windows that would be no problem. Tracker is not necessary because your buddies can discover you over DHT protocol that is trackerless. Only thing that may bother you as a seeder is your conectivity (firewall and router rules).

This is not your answer, but what would prevent you from sending emails that say "To get DVD 1, click here...." and just add an ftp hyperlink to "click here"? Any email program and any browser would then just download it.
