ksysguard cannot connect to localhost

ksysguard starts up saying "Cannot connect to localhost"

I have tried changing connection method (connecting to localhost or 127.0.0.1 - same I know) by ssh, rsh, Daemon - nothing works

My /etc/hosts consists only of

# For loopbacking.
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 gertrude-mk2.beatty.org gertrude-mk2

# End of hosts.

I can "connect" to localhost using rsh but I am asked to drag sensors in but after a few seconds I get "Connection has been lost" and am back to square one. I wouldn't even know where to find sensors

I've been using linux (Slackware) as my Desktop for 2 years now so I'm not wholly inexperienced

Thanks in advance for any help

it seems your /etc/hosts doesn't reflect your domain.....
You should reconfigure the network domains maybe with a

su
netconfig

Hope it helps

If you mean the

127.0.0.1 gertrude-mk2.beatty.org gertrude-mk2

line I don't think that is the problem. It's only done in such a way so that I get gavin@gertrude-mk2:~$ in my terminal. It's just a stupid thing I did because I didn't know how to get linux to look up the data itself
It has worked for me for 2 years and has not been edited recently.

I should have mentioned that this started when I upgraded from KDE-3.4.0 to KDE-3.4.1 using the tgz's on linuxpackages.net.
I copied my .kde directory across in it's entirety.

BUT I have tried deleting ~/.kde/share/config/ksysguardrc and the ~/.kde/share/apps/ksysguard/ directory.

ALSO I've set up a "test" user with useradd and logged in only to get the same error so it seems to me like old configs are not the problem.

Try launching ksysguardd in a console - I saw an error about missing libsensors.so.3.
After installing lm_sensors ksysguard worked again.
(slackware 10.1 kde 3.4.1)

Thanks, I'll try it as soon as I get back to my box.

Thought I'd tried that but now that I think of it I may have forgotten. Bit stupid of me really
