kswapd0 hogs all cpu

Hi,

I'm running Slackware 10.0 kernel 2.6.10 on a Dell latitude D800 laptop with 1 Gb of RAM. I run windows XP at the same time on a second screen using VMWare. This windows XP gets 512 Mb of RAM leaving about 300 Mb of RAM unused and thus no swapping occurs. Every time I start the vmware session kswapd0 stats using up all my CPU for about 5 minutes while swapping is absolutely not necessary. Does somebody know how I can fix this?

thank you for your help,

maenho

VMware is a hog in itself, especially once you start loading up Windows XP and the such. You could try running a lighter desktop if your using Gnome or KDE currently to free up some resources.

We have a dedicated dual xeon 2.4GHz server with 4GB of RAM just for running VMware and nothing else if that tells you anything.. ;)

I agree that VMWare uses a lot of resources but that doesn't explain why kswapd0 should use all cpu if the physical memory is not used at its maximum
