It could be it can't locate the rest of its stuff. Sound like a kde program so has it installed itself to /usr/local/kde ?
If so it probably can't find its own libs.

You probably have to set $KDEDIRS and/or $KDEDIR, to point to the right place.
You'd have to check what that is for Mandrake.

SInce I use Debian, I don't know if this will work for you but...
Programs I compile myself (I'm working on KPovModeler at the moment) Go in /usr/local/kde/
So what I do is add
export KDEDIRS=/usr/local/kde
to my ~/.bashrc fileThis doesn't affect my kde install, and new programs I compile work under usr/local/kde.
----
Doesn't Madrake have a edutainment download for KDE? because kstars would be under that and It would install properly then
