You need to configure KsCD for digital playback. This assumes the version of KsCD installed has this option. I also assume that the drive appears to be playing the CD but you can't hear any sounds.

There are two methods of playing a music CD. The 1st one is the drive acts like a regular CD player and it generates the sound. This requires an audio cable connected between the CDROM drive and the sound card.

The second method is the computer reads the digital data and it generates the audio. Also known as digital audio extraction (DAE). Requires more CPU time but does not require an audio cable.

BTW xmms is also capable of DAE.

OK, thanks.

Makes sense, but I tried to activate the digital playback option and KsCd gives me an error message. I assume I configured it incorrectly (wrong /dev/dsp or arts or something like that) or another program has control over those devices.

I usually disable arts because I use KHdrecord that doesn't support arts very well.

I'll repost as soon as I get a chance to play around with them a little bit longer.

Thanks,
Murdock
