KPPP spontaneously dies

Haha now that I have your attention... just kidding...

I'm currently running Fedora Core 1 (previously RH9) and have just got a new external modem (yay no more WinModem crap). I noticed that my modem would randomly disconnect and thought that my new modem wouldn't - but it's been happening all night :(

Is there a setting somewhere that says that if it's inactive for a certain amount of time to kill it or something?

Some ISPs will time out an idle connection and hang it up. Call your ISP support and ask if they do that.

Na it's not an ISP issue - I used to be on 24/7 without any issues... I'm not on that much these days :D

It's not an ISP issue. It's a kppp issue. It's compiled with a timeout. European telephone systems charge by the minute for locat calls and as a result, the default compile in kppp is to have it time-out after about 3 minutes idle.

See if your distro has an app called kinternet or qinternet and try using that instead.

I use SuSE and use kinternet for myself. My wife is set up to use qinternet (kinternet crashes in Gnome, the envirnment I have her set to use).

I'm using Fedora Core 1 but all I can find are RPM's for Suse - can't even find the homepage... Have you got any ideas where I could find it? Thanks for the help BTW :)
