kppp sometimes goes crazy

ok as a non-root user i sometimes get a message in kppp log which says ...access denied to /etc/options. Now this can' t be true since the user account I am using is in the group which has read/write access to the options file. Also, this happens at random. Is my computer possesed?

I am running Slackware 10.1 and KDE 3.3

Read/write is not the same as execute. If there is anything in there that the systems needs to execute, you will get the 'access denied' error message.

To fix that, su to root, then issue the command "chmod g+x /etc/options" (without quotes) to give the group execute permission in re /etc/options.

See the man pages for chmod for more information.
