kppp problems

hello there. I'm using kppp and I getting error 16 messages "pppd died unexpectedly"; although not on connection - usually between 10 and 40 minutes after connection, and sometimes I can go all night :-)))

any ideas? maybe the line??

running rh9 with gvc 56 modem

regards,

rossco

It could be:

the phone line
your internet provider
heavy internet traffic

If there are a certain number of users connected to an ISP at a certain time, they will cut some off.

yeah i think your right - my only thought was that I used to connect, often for periods up to 12 hours, with windows 98 (but with winmodem). Maybe I should go back to windoze? :-;

I had worse problems with windows 98. It won't affect the ISP and phone line. Plus, you'll eventually have to go through the gruelling task of trying to reinstall Microsoft's TCP/IP.

With my former ISP I could stay on for as long as I wanted. My current one disconnects you after being idle for two minutes.

What I do is open up amsn or gaim and let it keep the connection open :)

That cut off sounds grusume. I'm in South Africa, and their not that advanced - yet. I can connect at weekens and night where they cap the call charges at about $1. So on friday night I could connect until sunday for a dollar - as long as it remained one long call. But god it pissed the wife off some, her not having a phone and all. That's how I got rh9 - 5 whole nights per cd!

5 ISO's via dialup? You're mad! :)

If you check the man pages for pppd you will find (down near the bottom) a listing of the error/exit codes. Sort through that and see what's causing the disconnect.

the error "pppd died unexpectedly" always comes up whenever your diconnected from the internet. For whatever reason.
