Kopete won't loggin into MSN or Hotmail
Kopete won't loggin into MSN or Hotmail any more. It keeps telling me my passwords are wrong but I know they're correct. Has bulls@#t Bill been changing protocols again? If so why does he bother????

Have you tried to make a new account? / Tried your account another place with a client known to work?
Maybe your account is messed up. I heard something about fucked up contact lists. I think it might be solved by logging in once with the Microsoft MSN client for windows (and probably mac).

I have this problem as well with Kopete, and it's got to be the protocol. I build and service computers for a living, so out of my 3 PCs and one Mac here, I do have one that runs Windows XP. I'm able to login to MSN Messenger just fine on the Windows system, but in Kopete, forget it. Anyway, as I see above, the problem has been identified, but can anybody tell me how to easily solve it in Ubuntu 5.04 Hoary? I've just finished installing it on my laptop, as I had Warty on here, and decided to upgrade. I've added the Ubuntu universe and multiverse repositories to my sources.list file, and downloaded all the additional libraries, and the K desktop, as I prefer it to Gnome. So, everything is as up to date as Ubuntu will provide.
Any suggestions?

msn hotmail password sign on issue kopete fixed, for now
I'm posting this reply for googlers out there with new msn problems. It seems that kde has an authentication issue with its default settings. This will probably be fixed in the next kopete release or update.
Go to Settings > Configure > highlight your msn account > click connections > check "use http method" > ok > apply > ok > now try to reconnect.
Why does this happen? Is Bill Gates sitting infront of some computer clicking buttons just to mess with you? I dont think so, these comments amaze me. I doubt Gates has anything to do with what goes on with the messenger's programming and protocols. Think about it, the dude is so high up in the chain of command with a load of money. He is probably going to arange for a team to manage a team to pay a team who looks after another team of programmers who makes these updates. So do you blame the programmers? NO! Its probably a security update because someone found an exploit that could allow remote users to take advantage of your system. So would you rather someone try to fix it or just leave it functioning but insecure? If your using anything other than the real software publisher's software you should expect disconnects ever so often. Microsoft isnt going to announce to all of these 3rd party companies that they are going to change the protocol and their chat clients may no longer work. No, they would rather you just use Microsoft products in hopes that somehow your dollar will find a way into their pocket. Since our human nature causes us to want everything to be free at someone elses expense, things get complicated.
Ok ok ok... so who is really to blame here? I'd say its everyone who didn't pay for the services and products they use. If you did pay for it, the company might be a bit more motivated to make your life easier. I'm not saying chat is going away or that they will start charging money for their products and services. I'm just saying that there things happening behind the scene that you may not know about. Try some homework.
