Kopete installed

Having installed Kopete, I cannot find the executable to run it. Using MDK 9.1 + KDE.

How did you install it? RPM or source?

A good idea would be to type
kopete<ENTER> in a shell, btw ;)

Installed from tar.gz

kopete <enter> at command line isn't recognised.

do you do the complete steps ?
./configure
make
make install ??
try typing locate kopete and see if you get any results?

Yep, have done configure, make, make install. And I can see a directory named 'kopete' from the KDE file manager. Tried locate kopete from command line as you suggested and got the following errors -

Warning: locate: could not open database: /var/lib/slocate/slocate.db: No such file or directory
Warning: you need to run the 'updatedb' command (as root) to create the database

I have therefore run the updatedb command as root. After maybe 30 seconds of HDD activity, back to the 'root#' prompt. Ran locate kopete again and got a long listing of files in /root/kopete-0.7.1/ and in /usr/local/share/kde/

Now what?
