Kopete

Hi,

The chat client that came with SuSE 9.1/KDE 3.2, "Kopete" acts quite strangely. I get it to login to my AIM account, it retrieves my buddy list, signs on and then signs off a second later...it won't stay logged in. Anyone else have this problem, or a fix?

Thanks.

I would try a newer version if available, or try another IM-program like GAIM.

gaim.sourceforge.net it also support aim. and lots more ;-)

Oye, I tried installing gaim, but it needs GTK, which needs GLIB, which needs pkgconfig and I install pkgconfig but the other stuff still reports that pkgconfig is missing.

Do you have SuSE 9.1 Professional or personal?
Professional has everything on the CD's, even Gaim.

Also, it's best to install everything from RPMs and not from Source.
Try Guru's site and also ulb.

I have Personal... what do you mean "from source". Is there an RPM of gaim available? Can you please give me the website for "Gurus"

Thanks

What he means by complie from source is when you melt a tarball and complile using these commands.

./configure

make

make install

Which in SuSE 9.1 personal you need a complier installed to do so. RPM is red hat package manager, which does those basic steps for you...

Yes they do.

YaST will install them for you too and display any errors as well.

You can get all of those depedencies that Gaim may need at:

fxp://ftp.ale.org/pub/suse/i386/9.1/suse/i586/ -- change to ftp

Grab a RPM of Gaim hxxp://sourceforge.net/project/showf...p?group_id=235

Install using YaST. If SuSE is missing any dependencies, they will most likely be located in this same directory. Install them as well...

Hey hey hey!!

Well, this is very important. To get Gaim working with MSN, do the following in the order I say. It's very hard to get Gaim to work with MSN, but if you do it like this it will work without hassle.

Firstly: Download opencdk-0.5.4-1suse91.i686.rpm from:
http://guru.unixtech.be/rpm/packages...pment/opencdk/

Then download: libtasn1-0.2.9-1suse91.i686.rpm from:
http://guru.unixtech.be/rpm/packages...ment/libtasn1/

Then download: gnutls0-0.9.99-1suse91.i686.rpm from:
http://guru.unixtech.be/rpm/packages...opment/gnutls/

Then download: gaim-0.81-1suse91.i686.rpm from:
http://guru.unixtech.be/rpm/packages/Network/gaim/

Download the files in that order to whereever you want, and then install them in that order. I cannot emphasise it enough. That order. Very important.

IF you do that, Gaim will work perfectly with AIM, MSN, ICQ, YIM, IRC, Jabber and Gadu-Gadu.

Hope this helps.
