Konqueror settings won't stick

How can I get my Konqueror settings to persist? As one example of the problem, I go to My Computer and open one of the drives. I change the View mode to Info List, then go to Settings / Save View Profile "Web Browsing". I save the profile and quit Konqueror with Ctl-Q. I go back to My Computer and choose the same drive again. When the view opens, it has the same old icons.

I'm running OpenSuSE 11.1, but I've also encountered this problem under Kubuntu.

Why are you saving it as "web browsing"? If you're doing file management, you should be saving it to that profile.

Because in the Settings menu, the only Save choice is Save View Profile "Web Browsing". Moreover, I had already saved the correct profile under "File Management".

Perhaps, come to think of it, the real problem is a bug in the way that My Computer and Konqueror interact. Somehow Konqueror is using the wrong profile when called from My Computer. I've seen the same thing with Samba shares.

I created an icon on my (KDE 3.x) desktop called Home
It even has a "House" icon.
The command that is run when it is clicked is:
konqueror --profile filemanagement

It does exactly what you want

I can click on it, set up the file view modes and whatever I like the way I like them.
Then Settings - Save View Profile filemanagement - OK

Then it always opens as I like it.

KDE 3.x is good
(I'm not at all happy with KDE4, but I expect it'll get better.)

Edit:
R-click on your "My Computer" icon, select Properties and edit them.
/Edit
