konqueror hangs on right click

I can't remember what version of KDE I had (it came on the Suse 9.1 professional disk), but I recently updated KDE to version 3.4.1. For some reason, now when I am browsing files using konqueror, if I right click in the file window, it freezes. If you wait long enough (several minutes) the menu does actually appear, but by that time I've usually killed the window or done something else.

It never happens anywhere else; other programs are fine, and I can right click on all the menus and separator bars in konqueror without a problem. But as soon as I click in the file window, it hangs.

This happens no matter what file view I'm using (icon view, tree view, text view etc).

I updated to kde version 3.4.3-2 and it made no difference.

I currently have semi-transparent menus, so I tried changing the render mode of them and eventually made them completely opaque, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

There doesn't seem to be a problem in a root session. Maybe this could be a memory problem? Root has 2 desktops and I usually only have a couple of windows open at a time, but in a normal session, I have six desktops and do tend to have quite a lot of stuff open. I was using it like this for a long time before I updated though, and I never had a problem.

Have I installed something wrongly? Should I put this on the KDE bugzilla?

What do I do? :-S

It sounds like you have a compatibility problem where something did not get updated along with KDE. Are you running QT3 3.3.4?

How do I find out the version of QT? Actually, I probably downloaded the RPM with the rest of KDE, so I'll just try and install it.

That didn't help. I did find out though, that a root session in Konqueror (as in "file manager - super user mode" from the Kmenu) seems to work fine. Even in my session with all the stuff open and everything.

I just tried installing Konqueror from a non-super user mode Konqueror window, just in case it would install it more specifically on my username or something. I still had to put in the root password for YAST though, and it didn't make any difference.

rpm -qi qt3

Now that is cool! Erm, yes, the version of qt3 seems to be 3.3.4.

Ok, I just updated everything using susewatcher (it took about 3 days over my connection!), and now everything works fine as well. It also fixed the system sounds which didn't seem to be working.

(Keywords: system sounds not working in KDE) Just in case someone has the same problem with their system sounds.
