Konqueror and Samba Guest User

My home desktop has a simple Samba server running. Everything works fine for logged-in users but I can't seem to get the guest account to work properly. The smb.conf file contains the line
guest account = guest
and the user "guest" has a normal user account. "guest" also has an SMB account to which the password is blank. "guest" belongs to the "users" group.

When users from another machine connect to my Samba server as guest through smbclient (v3.0.14a-Debian), everything works out fine. When they connect as guest through Konqueror (QT v3.3.4, KDE v3.3.2, Konqueror v3.3.2), on the other hand, they can list the contents of directories marked rwxr-x--- but they cannot read files marked rw-r-----. I can find no explanation for this; is it possible Konqueror is not using the proper guest account or something?

My system is running testing Debian Sarge AMD64. Does anyone have any ideas?
