Knights has good eye candy. Have you tried 3dchess? 3 dimensional Chess for X11R6. Three boards, 96 pieces and 26 directions.

I have tried knights but...dont use kde, or gnome anymore ........so im stuck with xboard (not real challenging)........just wondering if anyone knows of good engines or clients to connect to chess servers.....
