I have installed a copy of Knoppix to my hard drive and I am having a tough time getting the system set up to load correctly. At this time I have two main issues.
1) In shell, the ketboard loads as german. In what configuration file is this saved? I would like to set the system to load shell in english.
2) There is a problem with KDE looking for values in the KNOPPIX home directory? Is that set in the KDE conf file? I haven't checked yet because of the german shell.
On the language part, when booting to the livecd you can type: knoppix lang=us . I've never had the language issue on a hard drive install but you may have success using the command: tzconfig . If I recall, part of the setup of tzconfig ask about language and locale settings which you want.
which version of knoppix did you install? and which command did you use to install?
e.g. knx-hdinstall or something else?? the reason i ask this is because in different distro's of knoppix, there are different possiblities of scripts to install it on your hdd, one works fine ,the other doesn't...
Thank you for the response. I downloaded the english version 3.4 from one of the knoppix mirrors. As far as installing to the hard drive, I just did a copy of the entire file system as explained in article on the knoppix website. I did not run any scripts to copy the system over. If you would just point me in the right direction that would be great.
Thank you,
Shawn
Also, I will try the tzconfig option when I get home. I am no longer booting the live CD. Thanks
Thank you for the help... The install script worked great. Is it fairly simple to burn the system back to cd after changes to the OS are made? Do you have any suggestions for doing so?
it isn't that easy here you can reada howto to create a linux-live cd.
there are much more tutorials/howto's to do this, just google for it...
in the future i'm gonna make one of my own too, but i haven't done it yet before, so i'm sorry, but i can't help you any further with that, just read the howto's and you will figure it out
