I have heard that you can,t use a modem on Knoppix unless you install it on your hard drive. surely not. I,ve gon through all the setup steps to configure my external modem to my ISP. It lights up and the message says ok, but there,s no dial tone and no connection.
Anyone help. I would be very greatful.

Hi,

I've got it working with modem via CD - my pay-as-you-go works fine but not my BT anytime account at the moment (I'm looking into this).

However, if you open a consol, and type kppp (or kpppd I think), the console will log all of the actions and tell you which is failing.

you can use any linmodem on knoppix 3.2
not sure bout the other versions but i would suggest gettin 3.2 and installing it on to ur hdd
