KMIX Volume Controls In-Op
 

Hey People,

I've got an HP G7 series with Slackware64 14.0 on it. I'm running KMix platform 4.8.5.

HISTORY: After installing 14.0 over a year ago, I placed the KMix icon in the taskbar tray as part of the booting up of KDE. It's always worked until about a month ago. Meaning, I could click the icon and turn off / adjusted the volume. Then due to some poor clicking a month back all my taskbar stuff shifted to the left and hid current running software. I ended up getting it straightened out but lost my KMix Icon in the shuffle.

PROBLEM: Using Add Widget I put another KMix icon in the taskbar. However, I can't get the icon to open the volume controls. The mouse just bounces (KMix icon) and then stops after 5-10 sec.

WORKAROUND: I have found away around it without using alsamixer. I open System Monitor. Find KMix and end the process. Next I click on the KMix icon once to activate it, and then again to open the volume controls. As long as I don't reboot, I can continue to click and adjust.

It's not stopping me from using KMix, it's just a hassle that I would like to correct if I can. I'd appreciate any recommendations anyone may have.

That sounds like a kmix process is running but not showing an icon in the tray. It has a lock on the volume controls and the second icon can't start another instance of kmix. When you kill the running process, that removes the lock, and the second icon you added to the tray can then launch kmix.

Edit ~/.kde/share/config/kmixrc. In the [Global] section, look for TrayVolumeControl=true. If it is set to false, change it to true. Then log out and log back in. That will place a small icon in the tray (not the large icon you get when using the Add Widget method).

Thanks for the input. It allowed me to dig a little deeper on the issue. I checked TrayVolumeControl and it was set to true. This implied I had an icon somewhere. I researched and found there are hidden icons in the task bar. I activated the System Tray widget and there it was.
