I'm running Debian unstable and the latest KDE and Kmail. I have a dial-up connection. Now, I use Spamassassin as a daemon to scan all mail as it comes in to filter it to the proper folders. I have no problem with the mails coming in slowly due to my dialup and the scanning. My problem with Kmail is, while it's downloading messages, it's responsiveness goes in the toilet. It's like 'click.... wait.. wait.. response'. All the other apps on the desktops run fine, no problem. And when not downloading, Kmail is fine.

Is this a bug or just something I have to live with? Linux handles multiple tasks so well, I'm kind of surprised that Kmail has this problem. Anyone else notice this or is it just me?

That's a feature of spamassassin it is a resource hog and it's not just you I'm on DSL here and everytime my mail gets checked it happens to me as well.

Almost forgot something you can do is make sure that you have both razor and pyzor installed it uses checks from both and that may be slowing it down I believe it was pyzor that did not get installed on mine.
