Question KMAIL settings not STICKING

I am trying to configure my Kmail email client with my smtp info from my ISP but, the setting do not stay..there isnt an apply button or save settings option.
when I try to dowload the mail I get a warning that says "you must creat an account under network setting in menu" which I just finished doing about 10 times..

does anyone have any suggestions? how about a different email client..what about firebird is it much better?

thanks for you help,
