KMail and POP folders

I'm using kmail to query my Yahoo mail account through thier POP/SMTP access. Everything works fine for sending mail and querying the inbox, but I can't see any of the folders that I've created through the website. I.e: as far as KMail is concerned, the Yahoo account appears to be an 'Inbox' and nothing else - no user folders.

Is this a fault in KMail, a general drawback of POP, a specific problem with Yahoo, or am I simply doing something stupid...?

Thanks,

R.

Hi richardh1970,

it's a POP 'problem' you are facing. POP only queries the 'INBOX' folder on your account. If you are interested in the contents of the other folder, you have two options:

1) using the web interface, copy / move everything to INBOX and then download using KMail or whatever client
2) (much better) use IMAP instead of POP. I don't know if yahoo supports this, KMail does (to some extent). If you query your account using IMAP, you can see all folders just as they appear on the web. Basically your emails stay put on the server, so you can still access them from other locations (be it using a browser or an IMAP client)

hth,
f

Thumbs up

Thanks for the quick reply. I have no idea what IMAP is - so I'll have to get reading. Until then I'll just manage with a growing Inbox.

Thanks for your help.
