kmail's filters eating up to 80% CPU!

i used thunderbird as my mail client, but as i didn't know how to set it up with clamav & spamassassin i moved to kmail. everything is fine, but when it checks for new mail, spamassassin and clamav processess take up to 80% cpu. is this normal? if not, how can it be avoided? it is very annoying, especially when there is 30 new mails and it takes nearly 10 secs (maybe even more) to process one

thanks for any ideas...
