killustrator = kermit?

my friend was telling me that there was an open source program called kilustrator that was like adobes's illustrator but adobe got pissy because of the name reference so they had to change it. he said they changed it to kermit or something like that. I wanted to know if that is true because my friend wants adobe illustrator cuz he uses it at school and i want to show him that sometimes you can get quality open source programs for free.
