Keyboard map issue at startup MDK 10.1
 

I'm running Mandrake 10.1. I recently encountered a problem with my key map. I have to press the quote or the double quote + a spacebar to get the quote (" or '), otherwise i get an umlaut. I have to set the keyboard map to US manually from the control center. The problem resumes after each start up. Help me, it's very annoying and inconvenient. Thanks

i don't have xorg so this may not be the same
for me the how-to info is in a file
/etc/X11/xkb/README.config
