Keyboard layout switch - looking for soft with specific feature, or advice for X config

Hi all!

Currently I use xkb to switch kb layouts. I actually couldn't find any other switcher to do what I need: use Caps to switch to 1st layout, Ctrl+Caps - to 2nd, Shift+Caps - to 3rd, Ctr+Shift+Caps - to 4th (current layout doesn't matter). [in memory of Jef Raskin, iYKwIM]

So my first question is: do you know any kb-switch package with described behavior? (you can stop reading here if you know the answer)

My current problem. The xkb settings reset every time I detach and re-attach my keyboard. With usb kb it wasn't a big problem - I needed to detach it very rarely, and I just pressed a shortcut to a script renewing the settings after re-attaching it. But now I use bluetooth kb. It disconnects every time I don't use it for several minutes. And it's really annoying to press additional shortcut every time. So here are two more questions: (a) is there a way to 'prohibit' xkb forgetting it's settings? (b) if no, how can I rerun the script automatically after every kb connect? (I know almost nothing about configuring X and devices, I've just copied that xkb scripts from my bf's laptop, and he found it somewhere years ago)

P.S. Excuse me for my possibly bad English, I'm Ukrainian.

One solution is to put a keyboard indicator on the panel. That shows you which you're currently using and enables you to switch using the mouse.

Another approach is to set custom shortcuts with the tool in the menu. You can attach key-strokes to commands, and the commands you want will be like
setxkbmap us
setxkbmap ua
which change to the USA or Ukranian keyboard drivers.
