kernel VFS troubles

I compiled 2.6.10 kernel with inital ramdisk.

When I reboot I get this error:

***
VFS: Cannot open root device "hda1" or unknown-block(0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
***

Also I tryed different boot= parameters in grub: dev/hda, dev/hda1, /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc

My disc are: hda1 - ext3, hda5 - swap.
I compiled ext3 into the kernel.

What's wrong? I think, I forget something

you will need to remember your /etc/fstab or use knoppix to have a peep?

the append root= is saying it expects / partition to be /dev/hda1 and its not.
the root (hd0,0) command defines the search path for /boot partition or /boot subfolder

but me thinks your /boot is not on the same partition as / ?
