Kernel Version and updating
 :study:
How do I determine which kernel I have? I'm using Mandrake 8.0. Also how do I update my kernel if it is not current? Is there a website that explains this?

use this command

uname -r

the kernel howto explains it.

after downloading the kernel source and unpacking it to /usr/src/linux you can get the info you need in /usr/src/linux/Documentation/

also you can get a kernel howto on the www by searching in google

or here

you can get the latest kernels from or maybe mandrake's site, but unsure if they have it there or not, a customized version for mandrake that is.. as i don't use their site or mandrake.
