Kernel Version and updating

 :study:
How do I determine which kernel I have? I'm using Mandrake 8.0. Also how do I update my kernel if it is not current? Is there a website that explains this?
Thanks
Very enthusiastic Linux user

use this command

uname -r

the kernel howto explains it.

after downloading the kernel source and unpacking it to /usr/src/linux you can get the info you need in /usr/src/linux/Documentation/

also you can get a kernel howto on the www by searching in google

or here

http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Kernel-HOWTO.html

you can get the latest kernels from www.kernel.org or maybe mandrake's site, but unsure if they have it there or not, a customized version for mandrake that is.. as i don't use their site or mandrake.
