Kernel Source Install HELP!
Hi everyone!
I just learned that I needed the Red Hat Linux 9.0 kernel source to install a program. So since my distribution did not come with the kernel source (it came with "Red Hat Linux 9.0 for DUMMIES" which does not include the Kernel source), I downloaded a kernel source (rpm format) version 2.4.20-6 from rpmseek.com. However, when I click on the rpm, Red Hat prepares to install it, but after that nothing happens. I checked the usr/src/..., but there is no linux source. Could it be that the file is corrupted or is it because I'm doing something really stupid. Please help! Thanks:Pengy: |
Are you sure that you don't have the kernel-source on your CD? Search for "kernel"...
And are you sure that the RPM you downloaded is for your Distrib and Kernel? I think you could get the kernel-source for RH9 on redhat.com or search in google for it. Oh wait! I googled for you ;) Here all the kernel stuff for RH9: http://atrpms.physik.fu-berlin.de/dist/rh9/kernel/ or just the kernel source: http://atrpms.physik.fu-berlin.de/di....i386.rpm?info Its very good that you noticed that you need the kernel source! ;) My first distrib was RH9 and I had to install the drivers for my Ethernet Card, so I needed the kernel-source... Paa! I was like 5 days on my PC until I noticed that I need it! Ok...good luck! |
Thanks for your reply!
Does the "-6" part of 2.4.20-6 matter? |
kernel source
im pretty sure the -6 part of the kernel matters.
there will be rpms for each of the different kernels. im guessing kernel-source2.4.20.rpm and kernel-source2.4.20-6 etc. im running rh 9 with the kernel updated to 2.4.20-28.9 and im having a problem comfinguring the wlan-ng drivers if anyone can help me out. i copied the relevant file from the /usr/src/kernel2.4.20-28.9 to .config but that didt fix the compile error. |
