Kernel-Source doesn't match kernel

I have been searching the internet high and low for the answer to this problem, but either I can't seem to find the answer.

It all started when I tried to play America's Army on my computer. Apparently I didn't have the drivers installed for my nVidia GeForce FX 5700LE installed, so I went and downloaded the driver package.

Problem is, when I try to install it, it needs to build something or other using the Kernel-Source, but my Kernel Source doesn't match the version of the kernel i'm running.

I read that you can find out what kernel stuff you have installed by typing:

Code:
rpm -qa | grep kernel
and when I do that, it lists the following items:

Code:
kernel-smp-2.6.8.1.12mdk-1-1mdk
kernel-source-2.6-2.6.8.1-25mdk
Can anyone tell me how to either

a) Get the correct matching version of my kernel-source, or
b) Update my kernel version and get a matching kernel-source with it?

I'm a TOTAL linux n00b, meaning my experience with Linux began about 2 weeks ago, so I have trouble understanding some of the more complicated stuff. Of course, any help at all is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

I'm assuming you're using Mandrake/Mandriva, if not this may not apply:

For some reason kernel updates do not come through the normal Mandrake Update mechanism (you have to do it specially following the commands here: http://www.mandriva.com/security/kernelupdate). However the kernel-source package does get updated normally through Mandrake Update. So if you keep up with updates your kernel-source package will be updated to the latest version available while your kernel will not unless you follow the instructions in that link.

So in short the solution to this is to just get the updated kernel package as described in that link - technically you should be doing that anyway , but of course Mandrake has made it neither easy nor well known to users that that's what they have to do.

Thanks for responding to my question

I had actually done what the site you linked to told me to do earlier today. I don't know if I did something wrong or not (remember, I'm a complete beginner) but it doesn't look like the kernel-source matches the kernel version. Did I do something wrong?

Try going to easyurpmi and getting an update source from there (remove the existing update_source in the Sources Manager in the Mandrake Control Centre). Now try following the instructions on the Mandriva site again. If that fails you may want to manually download the latest kernel (all the update mirrors are just FTP or HTTP sites), for example ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/mandr.../main_updates/ - I'm guessing you use 10.1.
