Angry Kernel panic - Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

I get this error message when trying to load Linux, than it just freezes. This is a virtual machine copied from an actual PC. I have tried changing the root=LABEL=/ to root=/dev/hda0/ but it did not work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.10-1.14_FC2 ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet
initrd /initrd-2.6.10-1.14_FC2.img

Partitions start with 1. Try /dev/hda1 or /dev/sda1.

Unfortunately that didn't work either. I tried 0, 1, and 2.

Make sure you leave off the trailing "/", as in "/dev/hda1", and not "/dev/hda1/".

You can try the UUID method of booting
root=UUID=<the UUID from the copied system>
but that begs the question:

How was the copying performed?
