Angry Kernel Panic:Unable to mount Root fs


When I want to boot Linux/SUSE 7.3 keeping it primary slave with Windows 2000 as a primary master Hard DIsc.it dispatch the error message while booting, "Unable to mount Root fs".
i want to have windows 2000 as a primary disc with Linux/SUSE as slave.
how can i do that?

hi ajay,
It is perfectly alright to load linux on a logical partition. If that is what you are upto.
Windows just need to be on the active primary.Do you understand that stuff ?
Anyway, if you are getting kernel panics and it says unable to mount root fs then i think while the kernel was configured for you the support for the filesystem was left out.....actually your root fs would be formated to type say ext3 and maybe the kernel has not been compiled to support ext3.
Did you have a distro cd or did you recompile the kernel. Can you confirm that, then we may be able to help you with that ?

forgive me for ignorance
the error messages regarding to the boot problem are

FAT:did not find valid FSINFO signature
Kernel panic:VFS:unable tomount root fs on 03:02
if above information can give some hints abt the problem,plz reply me
both os are on different hard discs
