kernel module help

I would like to know if there was a good reference on kernel modules. Ive read The Linux Kernel Module Programming Guide and Linux Loadable Kernel Module HOWTO, and neither really touch base on what Im trying to get at. First off, here's what I already know:
  • How to manually load modules
  • How to solve module dependencies
  • All command line module commands and how to use them

What I would love to know:
  • How modules.conf is setup, used, and at what time its used.

Thank You,

Druisgod
