Kernel Bug: Scheduling while atomic: IRQ 21/245

I compiled a custom vanilla kernel with a config that I've always used but apparently I've screwed something up and I doesn't boot with this error on Ubuntu:
Bug: Scheduling while atomic: IRQ 21/0x.../245

Same kernel on ArchLinux:
Requesting_Module: Runaway loop modprobe binfmt-464c
and then something like:
irq 21: nobody cared!

Anyone have any hints on how to debug this?

I realized I was booting in quiet mode. When i took that off I got some more output:
ACPI: PCI interrupt link [ALKB] (IRQs 21) *0, disabled
try pci=routeirq if device doesnt respond
acpi_bus-0201[01] bus_set_power : device is not power managable

then the boot process stops on this line:
freeing unused kernel memory: 204k freed

does that give anyone any more clues?
