Kernel boot problems

Hi,
I have just installed kernel 2.6.0.test8 on my debian 3 unstable system. I configured it with menuconf, then did #make.... then make modules... and then i updated lilo. I then rebooted, and it still went to the old 2.4.18 kernel. so i deleted the 2.4.18's entry in /boot ( i know, im an idiot) and again set lilo, it had some error or warning message, i cant remember what that was

now i get this error on boot:
Loading Linux_2.6.0EBDA is big; kernel setup stack overlaps LILO second stage

what is wrong? how can i fix it?
I can edit lilo.conf and everything thru knoppix, but what do i do?

Thanx

Where did it install the kernel and System.map? in / or in /boot?
What kernel are you booting (check lilo.conf)
Did you setup your Makefile (in /usr/src/linux) to use / or /boot as the install path? Look for "export INSTALL_PATH=/boot"

i installed them to /boot/
vmlinuz --> vmlinuz-2.6.0-test8
system.map --> system.map-2.6.0-test8

and my lilo.conf says:
boot = /dev/hda
map = /boot/map
delay = 30
timeout = 500
prompt
default = Linux_2.6.0
vga = normal
append = "hdc=ide-scsi"
root = /dev/hdb1
read-only
lba32
install=/boot/boot-menu.b
image = /vmlinuz
label = Linux_2.6.0
append = "master"

Where do i look for export INSTALL_PATH =/boot ? and how do i set it?
Do i need to recompile the kernel after this?

Thanks

looks like image is /vmlinuz and your install went to /boot/vmlinuz?

You will be able to chroot mounted directory from knoppix, then run lilo.
