Kernel 2.63 lilo warnings

When I try to use lilo in 2.6.3 I get a stream of warnings

Warning: '/proc/partitions' does not match '/dev' directory structure.
Name change: '/dev/nbd0' -> '/dev/nb0'
Warning: '/dev' directory structure is incomplete; device (43, 8) is missing.
Warning: '/dev' directory structure is incomplete; device (43, 9) is missing.
Warning: '/dev' directory structure is incomplete; device (43, 10) is missing.
Warning: '/dev' directory structure is incomplete; device (43, 11) is missing.
etc, etc
Fatal: Failed to create a temporary device

Originally I was getting these warnings about
Warning: '/proc/partitions' does not match '/dev' directory structure.
Name change: '/dev/ram8 etc
and came across a reference to it in the slackware current changelog for an updated devs package, Ive upgraded the package and now the error has changed from /dev/ram8 to /dev/nbd0

I can still use the new kernel by manually copying it to /boot and changing the vmlinuz symlink and the system is running fine.

Anyone else experiencing this and know of a solution?

edit-> I should have posted this in the slackware forum as its a slackware issue.

/proc/partitions does not math /dev

Hi,

We had a similar error on a software raid box.

The problems were the following:
Lilo reported the same error as yours
Raidhotadd did not add a device it just hung

The cause of the problem was generated because the "/sys" directory did not exist.

Our kernel 2.6.9 booted without problems, but did not create the /sys filesystem.
Do to this the dynamic partition links (e.g. /dev/hdc2) were not created

To solve we created "/sys" manually and rebooted the system.
After reboot lilo and raidhotadd worked without any problem.

Hope this helps,
