Kernel 2.6.3 QM_MODULES not implemented

hi

i compiled kernel 2.6.3 on slackware 9.0

it boots and works fine

the problem is that i have to keep the harware support for my pc as in built into the kernel and not as modules

for example , the soundcard and network card drivers have to be compiled into the kernel

if i compile them as modules
the kernel boots fine but it gives error messages during startup that

QM_MODULES not implemented

so it cannot insert the modules

even lsmod and modprobe commands do not work

they give the same error as above

whats the problem

incidentally i also compiled kernel 2.6.0 on slackware 9.0
it also gives the same problem

is the problem in the slackware installation or with the source code

i am sure the code is un modified and clen

i downloaded it from
kernel.org

please help me

rajan

The new module format in the 2.6 kernel is incompatible with the old modutils. You need to install module-init-tools. You can get it from ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/rusty/
