kernel 2.6.16.9

I have a computer with all embedded nvidia components. Under kernel 2.6.13 and slackware 10.2, everything works well. I'm also using the driver from nvidia's website which compiled just fine. When I install the the new kernel (2.6.16.9), and try to recompile the ethernet driver from nvidia for the new kernel, it doesn't work. It will compile but won't load it due to incompatible source files. It will ask to include the path of the source files; I set the option for the source of the new kernel and it compiles but won't load the module. It also states that the wrong header files could have been used for the current kernel.

Apparently its a compiler version mis-match when compared against the kernel. Is there a way around this where the new kernel would automatically load all necessary drivers for the network card? I don't need the sound since I have a Sound Blaster card. I did the make xconfig but can't find specific options for the nvidia ethernet cards. Please help. JFLINUX
