So, how did you guys make out?? I d'loaded it, compiled it, and after the kernel is decompressed, I just get a blank screen. I can't find anything in menuconfig that I obviously left out. In fact, I just loaded the old config from 2.4.21 and then changed a few things (like bootsplash is no longer a patch, but built-in). Anybody with any suggestions?

Same Problem

I am not a kernel guru myself but I figured it might be a problem with the framebuffer so I checked my lilo.conf and switched back to the vga bootup. This looks ugly but it fixed the problemm for the moment Let's see if somebody else has found the real cause of the problem so we can all go back to our beloved 1024x768 framebuffer bootscreens.

good luck,
Lispy

Ok, i got it. The problem was that I didn't comile VESA-VGA support in the kernel. In xconfig go to the section "graphics suuport" and turn off all options except VESA VGA graphics support, recompile and reinstall the kernel. Then make sure your lilo.conf starts in the desired resolution. That did the trick for me. Might not work if your graphiccard is older than mine (i.e. not a VESA 2.0 compliant model). I use a Xentor Maxigamer from 1999, TNT2 chipset wich is actually pretty out of date).

PS: The NVIDIA-Drivers are broken with the new kernel, at lest for me. I switched back to the "nv" OS-Driver. Keep that in mind when firing up X.

Good Luck,
Lispy

always do a "make mrproper" before proceeding to config, and if there is a config-<something> file in /boot then remove or rename it to something else
