Keeps asking for dual layer DVDs

I have a dual layer DVD writer. I have never used it to burn a dual layer DVD (they're so damn expensive). I've had no problem for ages but now whenever I try to burn a DVD I am told that there is a regular blank DVD in the drive and it wants a dual layer blank.

I am not trying to put too much data on the DVD, even if I try to burn a single text file it still tells me I need to use dual layer. K3b is my favourite DVD burning tool but since having this problem I have tried others but they all seem to have the same problem.

Has anyone else come across this? If so did you find a solution?

i have the same exact problem. i dont have a dual layer dvd burner, yet it says it wants them when i have a single layer. i only burn enough for a single layer dvd at all times. it's agrivating to choose "force" and hope its ok.

Btw, i am using a tdk 8x single layer burner.

I think that my problem was due to using an unstable version of cdrecord (or some other component). After upgrading a couple of days later, mine was fine. I would try downgrading or waiting for a new upgrade.

Hope this helps.
