Keep a record of print jobs with cups

I work or an architectural firm that has to plot a lot of drawings, soon we are going to be upgrading to a linux based server, out plotting and data will be managed by it.

My boss wants me to set it up so that there will be a log we can always look at to see what has been recently plotted. does anyone know hwot o configure this?

I do not yet have cups installed to play around with, I would like some tips before hand. I do have the printer configuration files and postscript drivers already and am familiar with installing them based on another computer.

thanx :-D

yeah he is a good boss, it is also a small firm and he trusts my advice. witht he way things go he is willing to try linux, so I am gonna set him up server-wise. we tried vmware for autocad and linxu for everything else on a co-workers station, she was unable to grasp it though, she was productive but constantly complained so we removed it.

Cups keeps a log off all files printed (PreserveJobHistory On) by default which is viewable throught the cups web interface. You will probably need to configure the web interface so it is accessable to you local network. Uncommenting and modifying a few lines in the cupsd.conf file did the trick for me.

Just looking at it, "View Completed Jobs" through the web interface isnt particularly pritty, espically if a single job has a long name, like a webpage printout from IE
