Unhappy kdm with no keyboard!

I have SuSE9.1, and installed kde3.3.0, and now kdm will not respond to any keyboard entry, meaning i can't log in.

I have read a couple of Debian lists saying that kdm is starting in the 2nd console, instead of the 7th - but i am unsure of how to accomplish this.

I tried putting ServerVTs=-7 in the [General] Section of
/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc
but still to no avail.

Any pointers?

Thanks!
Seb

If it is on the 2nd console maybe you have to comment out the reference to tty2 in /etc/inittab.

okay, so this worked but when i log in, i am given only a terminal window in the corner. I have to type `startkde` to get kde up and running.

On my system kdm (the login manager) is started by the script /etc/init.d/kdm and there is some documentation in there and things to set. But I don't know in any detail how to configure this to start KDE. There are a heap of configuration files in /etc/kde3/kdm but I have no idea what to do with them.

You may be also be able to start KDE from your .xinitrc file, but it is a long time since I had to do this stuff, so this may be out of date.
