Question KDM Loading Too Early - Before NFS Share Mounted

Greetings,

I currently have an NFS/NIS server running Fedora 7. All of the client machines mount the home directory as an NFS share, and use NIS for authentication. They are running OpenSuSE 10.3, and use KDM as the display manager.
Eventually, I became bored with the default KDM theme, and decided to choose a new one. So I mounted an NFS share on all of the clients, leading to a directory on the server containing the KDM themes and configuration. It worked when I first restarted the clients' X server however when I reboot th client machines, the first time KDM shows up it displays the local theme instead of the one stored on the server. If I simply restart KDM, the correct theme is shown. My assumption is that when the machine starts up for the first time, KDM is initialized before the NFS share is even mounted.

How can I delay the the start up of KDM so that it correctly loads the KDM theme/configuration via the NFS share? I have the NFS shares mount on startup through fstab.

Please excuse my spelling/typos, I am writing this on a mobile device. And I also passed out today during Biology class. :P

Well, look in the /etc/init.d directory for kdm and delay with a sleep (manually) or setup a "Should-Start in ubuntu" (FC may have an equivalent.

Thanks for the advice. Your instructions led me to find out about something called "earlyXDM," which I found in the /etc/init.d folder. This led me to the following thread, which helped solve my problem.

Thanks much!
