KDM: 'Login failed' if not root

Hello. Having a problem with kdm. I can login just fine as root, but who wants to do that? When I try to use one of my other users no matter what kind of session I choose, I always get that boring old xsession (also the background stays whatever the kdm background was). Can anyone give me any suggestions?

Thanks!

try killing X then typing at a prompt: "gdm" or "mdkdm"( I think), and see if you can login using them :-)

Hmm... I don't have gnome installed and mdkdm wasn't recognized as a command. I think I will try to reemerge kde first of all... If you've got any more ideas, shoot'em my way!

Thanks but I'm currently using Gentoo. I suppose I should edit my Distribution info! I am currently re-emerging kde and if it still doesn't work I may mess around with gnome and see if I can get that to work instead!

thanks guys! I seem to have gotten kdm working by reinstalling. I also found I can kill x by typing 'killall kdm'! Works very well. Thanks again for your help!!!
