kded Error: FATAL: DCOP communication problem!

Hey all,

Ok, just reinstalled Slack 11.0, updated it, and I was going around uninstalling things that I didnt think I needed. Well, apparently I needed something. I first noticed this problem when I tried to use kopete (you know, the Instant Messenger) but it wouldnt log in to any of my accounts. Then I tried amarok and all it does is show the splash screen and sit there. So I tried starting kopete from the terminal to see if it would give me any extra output and I got the error message:
Code:

Very strange! got a DCOPReplyFailed opcode, but we were not waiting for a reply!
however if I go back to my first terminal screen (The one I used to log in and start x with there is the error
Code:

DCOP aborting while waiting for answer from 'kded'
So I thought ok, maybe kded isnt running and tried starting it from terminal and got the error message:
Code:

FATAL: DCOP communication problem!
Aborted

I am unsure where to go to from here. I was expecting it to give me the error that a library file was missing or something. but it just says FATAL and Aborted. That really doesnt help me. Any idea where a log for DCOP or kded might be to tell me more?

Thanks,

Another program that does work properly is ktorrent. It will open fine, and you can open a new torrent, but it doesnt connect to anything. It sits there saying "stalled". And stays connected to 0 peers. Just something to add to the issue.

if I log in as root everything works fine. So I tried deleting /tmp/ksocket-user, /tmp/kde-user, and .mcop and .mcoprc from my home directory, but that didnt fix the problem. I am gonna delete them again and restart and see if that helps. But I doubt it.

I FIXED IT.
Here is what I did.

My default Window Manager is XFCE4 (Or The Cholesterol Free Desktop Environment). However when I switched to KDE and started X everything worked (amarok, kopete, ktorrent, etc). So I thought that was wierd, so I went back to XFCE4 and everything worked. Kinda wierd... Sorry for wasting space on the Forum... but the problem is fixed :D

OK, I LIED

YES, if you start KDE and then log out and start something like xfce it works great! I was under the assumption that that permenantly fixed it. However, upon reboot, I go into xfce (by default) and once again i am back to my original predicament. But once again if I start KDE and then go into xfce everything works great! What is wrong???

Thanks,
