i have a mandrake 8.1 system and downloaded all the kde3 rpm files from kde org (46 of them!) and successfully installed all of them. but, when i try and get kde to start, i get bumped into failsafe mode automatically. it appears as an option in the logon screen, kde apps run with a new look that i suspect is kde3 from gnome, but i cannot get it to run as the desktop. any known issues out there?
If you're patient enough download the sources (Qt-3.0.3 and KDE3.0) compile them then it should work. I managed to do it with my Redhat 7.2 box. Good luck!
P.S.: the compilation takes a couple of hours...
i actually got it to load, but i cant integrate it with mandrakes autologin feature, so the only way i can load it is to not have X start automatically then log in and manually type startx. i know i know this is the only way to go for the die hards, but i kinda like the cuddly auto login feature. does anyone know how to get it working under mandrake 8.1?
