KDE without arts - good idea?

With KDE 3.4.2 just out, I was wondering whether it's worth taking advantage of the fact that you can compile kdelibs etc. without arts support. The first thing I do with a new KDE is turn the sound system off - because it gets in the way - so if I could get away without compiling and installing arts at all, I'd like to.

Has anyone tried compiling KDE without arts (i.e. --without-arts)? Does it work OK? Do other KDE apps (such as KOffice and k3b) still work OK? Or is it asking for trouble?

Of course it works. I have used k3b without arts too and it did work with alsa. And if you turned arts of and you had sound still in k3b and koffice there shouldn't be a problem.
