Question KDE Unable to start!

Ok I had the system stall on me and now I can't get back into KDE.

The system boots up and begins to load KDE then I get the error message:

"the following installation problem was detected while trying to start KDE $Home directory (/home/kb) is out of disk space.

KDE is unable to start"

I click ok and get this message:

"could not start kmserver check install"

Any ideas on how to sort this out without loosing all my pics and docs?

Oh yes I am using Suse 9.2 prof.

Thanks for the help!

It sounds like you're /home is full. If it were me I would go in with a Live Cd (PCLinuxOS, Knoppix, etc) and burn my important stuff to a disc. Of course you wouldn't be able to do that if you only have one cd or dvd drive. Then I would reinstall and make my self a bigger /home partition.

There may be a better way but this is what I would do.

Only one CD drive!

I think it is a graphics file that I was working on that was way too big and possibly the error log?

Someone please help!

Does your linux setup allow you to log in to a text terminal, sometimes called failsafe mode? There's often some way to specify terminal type at the login screen (you may have to click 'advanced' or something, it varies widely depending on distro).

You should be able to display a text terminal without any free space on /home, from where you can delete some files (even just a few meg), log out and try KDE again.
