KDE Panel Feature
 

There's a Windows 7 feature that I use at work that I've been trying to duplicate in KDE 4.8.5.

On the Windows 7 taskbar, I can create a group that's tied to a directory and dump shortcuts into the directory - and now they're available on the taskbar, (I think it's called a Folder Toolbar).

I've been trying to do this on the KDE Panel, but I can't find a solution.

Is there anything in KDE that does the same thing?

as you know MS windows "shortcuts" are not the same as linux "links"

unlock the lower task bar ( if locked , it is a very good idea to lock the "widgets" to prevent removing things by mistake )

r-click the tool bar
select "panel options"
select add widget
drag the "widget" called " Folder View"

make a folder in your home folder called " Links"
r-click the new folder view widget ( in the lower taskbar)
click on "folder view settings"
under locations add that folder called "Links"

then place the links in that folder

PERFECT!

This is exactly what I was looking for!

I poked around and couldn't find anything on this - can the icon be changed? It seems to change based on the type of location you choose.

you can use "Folder View" or even "Quick access" widget
on folder view , no you can not easily change it

but on Quick access you can change the icon

it is set up the exact same way as folder view

then "quick access settings" and under "appearance" you can select a custom icon

Oh wow - Quick Access is even better.

Now I can use icons to differentiate them.

For posterity: the "kde-plasma-quickaccess" package I guess doesn't ship with KDE. I found it in the Fedora repos. Install that and the Quick Access widget should show up in the list when adding it to the panel.
